Sofu’s exhibition at Pittsburgh and large bamboo installation
Titled If the word we, 59th Carnegie International invited Sofu’s art, including three large Sofu sculptures—Yakumo (Eightfold Clouds), Uzu (Vortex), and Kumo (Spider), 10 famous Mt. Fuji paintings, one bamboo screen painting, and pottery by Sofu in their gallery. Sogetsu Master Instructor Ken Katayama installed two large bamboo constructions.
Both Mr. Katayama and the Sogetsu Foundation represented by Kiri Teshigahara have received prestigious Carnegie awards.
San Diego Sogetsu Branch Director, Yumi Rakers, traveled to Pittsburgh, PA for five days to assist Mr. Katayama and the Sogetsu Pittsburgh Study Group in assembling the two large bamboo structures, which consisted of 100 bamboo pieces ordered from Georgia. Mrs. Rakers was grateful to participate in this installation but most of all, she was glad to see the late founder Sofu’s famous sculptures, paintings, and screen paintings. You can’t see them even if you live in Japan.
The If the word we exhibition opened on May 2, 2026 and will run through January 3, 2027.
